If you have any further questions about MBChB admissions at the University
of Auckland after reading the above documents, you can direct these to

process. The OIA allows eligible persons to request specified official
information held by the University, it does not require agencies to create
explanations about matters of interest to the requester. The part of your
email of 2 July 2024 which does fall under section 12 of the OIA is the
following:

 

"What is the lowest UTAS gpa to have received an offer of admission in
2024, 2023, 2022 and 2021?"

Information about the lowest GPA for a successful UTAS applicant - an
applicant who received an offer of admission - for the MBChB Part II
commencing in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 is withheld for the Students with
Disabilities, Low Socio-Economic Background, and Refugee Background UTAS
categories under section 9(2)(a) of the OIA, as this information relates
to a small number of persons and it is necessary to withhold information
about their results to protect their privacy. The lowest GPA for a
successful applicant under the Maori and Pacific Admission Scheme for the
MBChB Part II programme commencing in the requested years was as follows:
2024 - 4.0; 2023 – 3.9; 2022 – 4.5; 2021 – 3.95.

Dear University of Auckland,

In the previous information that you had released here

It can be seen that not all mbchb seats are filled, even though there are
some spots remaining. For example, 8 LSEB applicants were interviewed and
only 4 received an offer, while there were 6 seats in total, meaning that
2 seats remained empty. I would like to know the possible reasons that
seats go unfilled, given that gpa requirements are fulfilled as applicants
qualified for the MMI. Is there a rank score threshold or cut off point?
Or even a ucat and MMI cut off point put in place? Or do all applicants
who qualify the GPA requirement of 6.0 receive an offer if they remain
within the top 6 ranked & interviewed applicants?

 

With this, the document specifies next to the applicants section, “this is
the number of applicants considered for invitation to interview (it
excludes those who were ineligible or had already been declined)”

If the number of applicants excludes all who were ineligible then all all
those included in the stats must be eligible applicants. However, not all
of these eligible applicants were granted an interview offer. For example,
the GPA cut off for LSEB applicants invited to interview was 6.0, and
given that the data includes all eligible applicants, all 11 would be
expected to be offered an interview as they meet the GPA threshold.
However, only 8 applicants were actually interviewed. Would you please be
able to clarify this information and/or provide any reasoning behind why
all eligible applicants are not interviewed?

 

For those who apply under multiple categories, are they offered a seat
under whichever category they rank the highest in?

 

What is the process by which UTAS applicants are also considered under the
general category? Are those unsuccessful in the general category funnelled
into their respective UTAS schemes to be ranked?

 

What is the lowest UTAS gpa to have received an offer of admission in
2024?
