Number of annual visitors to Victoria Square
David Palmer made this Official Information request to Christchurch City Council
Christchurch City Council did not have the information requested.
From: David Palmer
Kia ora,
Does the council have any records or estimates of the number of visitors to Victoria Square? Specifically, I am interested to know the number of visitors to the square, ideally broken down by year, international tourists vs domestic tourists, and pedestrians vs cyclists.
Ngā mihi,
David Palmer

Christchurch City Council
Kia ora David,
On 4 April 2024, you requested the following information, under the Local
Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA):
Does the council have any records or estimates of the number of visitors
to Victoria Square? Specifically, I am interested to know the number of
visitors to the square, ideally broken down by year, international
tourists vs domestic tourists, and pedestrians vs cyclists.
Unfortunately, Christchurch City Council does not have any way of
capturing the data regarding the number of visitors through Victoria
Square, nor do they have any data on the number of cyclists who cycle
through the park daily. Due to this, we have decided to refuse your
request under the following section of the LGOIMA:
o 17(e) – the information requested does not exist or cannot be found
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review our
decision. Complaints can be sent by email to

Please note: our LGOIMA responses may be published on the Christchurch
City Council website a month after they have been responded to, with
requesters’ personal details withheld. If you have any concerns about
this, please contact the Official Information team on
