Asleep or drunk supervisor while driving on licenses other than full
Cody C made this Official Information request to New Zealand Transport Agency
The request was successful.
From: Cody C
Dear New Zealand Transport Agency,
The webpage https://drive.govt.nz/learner-licence/in... states:
“A supervisor is legally in charge of the vehicle. They must be alert and able to help you or take over driving if they need to. So they can’t be asleep or drunk if they’re supervising.“
Land Transport (Driver Licensing) Rule 1999, s18(2)(b) does state that the supervisor is in charge of the vehicle; however, I can find no reference to supervisors being asleep or drunk.
Please provide the source of the relevant legislation, or legal advice, which prohibits the supervisor being either asleep or drunk.
Yours faithfully,
Cody C
