National numbers of sealed road network
Cyclist Fan made this Official Information request to Ministry of Transport
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Cyclist Fan to read recent responses and update the status.
From: Cyclist Fan
Dear Ministry of Transport,
Based on following Ashburton district Mayor Neil Brown comments paraphrased;
'District (Ashburton) has 1500 km of sealed road network, and last year we replaced 8-10 km of new road, doing the equation, it is 150 years to replace all roads, when roads have timespan of 25 years. Even if road last 40 years, we still need to be doing 37km a year.'
My question to Ministry of Transport:
What is the total km of sealed road network in Aotearoa?
How many km of road are being replaced per year?
What is the funding gap between current expenditure by the Government (including National's $500 million funding promise), and actual budget required to sustainable replace all roads in NZ over the lifespan of 25 and 40 years of the road.
Yours faithfully,
Cyclist fan
