Living Wage License 2023-24
Daniel Forrester made this Official Information request to Auckland Council
The request was partially successful.
From: Daniel Forrester
Tēnā koe,
I work for a contractor for Auckland council, and after the living wage increase in September, staff are being paid below living wage until they complete their training.
If possible, I request to see the current terms of Auckland Council's license with the Living Wage Movement.
I've reached out to my employer for the relevant terms of their contract with council, but haven't heard back.
My understanding is staff can be paid below living wage so long as they are on "milestones" to reach it, but would like clarification on the exact terms established by council and the Living Wage Movement.
Ngā mihi,
Daniel Forrester

Auckland Council
Good morning Daniel,
I have liaised with our Procurement department in relation to your
request.
I request to see the current terms of Auckland Council's license with the
Living Wage Movement
Auckland Council is not officially accredited to the Living Wage Aotearoa
because we do not enforce it on all contracts.
Auckland Council pays Living Wage to its employees (see here:
[1]https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/abou...,
including link to Living Wage Aotearoa).
We also pay Living wage to some contractors. Specifically, the Governing
Body endorsed the move to a living wage for cleaners at an extraordinary
meeting of the Finance and Performance Committee on Tuesday, 10 December
2019 (see here:
[2]https://infocouncil.aucklandcouncil.govt...)
Other contracts may have included a requirement for Living Wage within
those contracts, but it is a case-by-case basis.
I hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
Grace Ray

Thank you all for your work in what has been a hard year for many and a
challenging year for Tāmaki Makaurau.
