follows:

 

“1. Can the University of Auckland please provide a copy of all
immunisation requirements that must be completed by medical students in
the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences before they are allowed to
attend hospital placements?”

 

The requested immunisation requirements can be found in the Immunisation
and Prevention of Infectious Disease Policy, which is publicly available
through the MBChB Portal here:

constitutes a refusal of your request under section 18(d) of the Official
Information Act.

“2. Can the University of Auckland please provide the number of their
medical students in 2023 who have been allowed to attend placement in New
Zealand hospitals without being fully vaccinated as per currently
advertised University of Auckland School of Medicine immunisation
requirements?”

 

There are two year 3 students who are yet to fully complete the
immunization process.  Exemptions have been made, following risk
assessments, in line with the industry standards.  Both are required to
have completed the immunization process prior to commencing clinical
placements in clinical years (years 4-6) of the programme.  All students
in the clinical years of the programme are compliant with the policy.

 

You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are
dissatisfied with this response.

Requirements

 

Dear University of Auckland,

I am seeking information around immunisation requirements for medical
students at the University of Auckland.

After reading social media content posted by a third year medical student
at the University of Auckland, I am concerned that this individual has
been allowed to start attending hospital placements without completing
their immunisation requirements for Hepatitis B.

After reading their content in detail, including screenshots of University
correspondence which stated clearly that their Hepatitis B immunity cannot
be assumed, I am significantly concerned that the University of Auckland
is allowing medical students into hospitals who are not vaccinated against
serious diseases.

I would like to request the following information:

1. Can the University of Auckland please provide a copy of all
immunisation requirements that must be completed by medical students in
the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences before they are allowed to
attend hospital placements?


2. Can the University of Auckland please provide the number of their
medical students in 2023 who have been allowed to attend placement in New
Zealand hospitals without being fully vaccinated as per currently
advertised University of Auckland School of Medicine immunisation
requirements?
