Amyes Road Intersection

Cody C made this Official Information request to KiwiRail

The request was successful.

From: Cody C

Dear KiwiRail,

Are there any improvements planned for the Amyes Road Intersection in the next 10 years? Please supply details. If not, how would someone propose said improvements? Further, is this railway line in use anymore? If not, what is the typical process for disposal / removal?

For clarity, I am referring to the intersection of Shands Road and Amyes Road in Christchurch.

Yours faithfully,

Cody C

KiwiRail

Good afternoon Cody
Our response below -

KiwiRail does not have any current upgrade plans for the Amyes/ Shand Road level crossing in the next 10 years.
The planning of any future upgrades for this level crossing are being investigated, but are subject to further discussions between KiwiRail, stakeholders and future council plans.
There is no process for members of the public to propose improvements, but as noted above, KiwiRail works with local councils and Waka Kotahi in considering the road/rail interface.

The Hornby line is still considered an active line and KiwiRail has expressed no interest in the closure of this line.

Kind regards
Dave
