Diane Calvert's Twitter account

P Lambert made this Official Information request to Wellington City Council

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for P Lambert to read recent responses and update the status.

From: P Lambert

Dear Wellington City Council,

Councillor Diane Calvert, like many other elected representatives, uses her Twitter account in her capacity as elected representative not as a private citizen.

As a consequence, there is an argument that her tweets fall within the scope of official information (this has been argued, and there is some support for this in other jurisdictions).

Like many other Wellington citizens, Diane Calvert has blocked me on Twitter. The consequence of this is as a voting citizen of the city, I am unable to see what my elective representative is saying. This is uncool, uncivilised, and not nice btw.

I would like:
1) A copy of all of Diane Calvert's tweets going back to 2016
2) Ideally, Diane Calvert to unblock all Wellington citizens on Twitter

If the conclusion is that a politician's account doesn't relate to their role as an elected representative, then either, they should pause their accounts while in office to save the confusion, or maybe the Council could issue clearer guidance on appropriate conduct.

Bloody hard as a citizen to know if elected representatives are representing us if what they say is not even in their official capacity and/or if we cant even read it.

Yours faithfully,

P Lambert

Just a thought from an observer - you probably don't need an LGOIMA request to get this info. Tweets are already public, and it's just Twitter preventing you from seeing it and sending the account stuff when you're logged in.

Right now you could right-click this link and open it with an incognito window ( https://twitter.com/dianecalvertnz ), and then Twitter won't treat you as being logged in.
