Royal Oak Roundabout Traffic Safety

Patrick Dunford made this Official Information request to Auckland Transport

Response to this request is long overdue. By law Auckland Transport should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

From: Patrick Dunford

Dear Auckland Transport,

Regarding the Royal Oak Roundabout and ongoing concerns about the safety of this roundabout:
What advice has Auckland Transport received about the wisdom of having all entrances into the roundabout with two lanes, and having the roundabout itself only partly two laned and only one of the exits two laned?

and therefore how is the risk of driver confusion over having two lanes at entrance and the roundabout failing to conform with standard two laned roundabout design, mitigated?

Given there is a need for a high level of driver workload in safely navigating this major roundabout, how certain can Auckland Transport be that the pedestrian crossings are sufficiently distant from the roundabout exits that drivers will have sufficient time on reaching an exit to be able to see and slow down for pedestrians on these crossings?

Yours faithfully,

Patrick Dunford
