The Human Rights Commission (the Commission) acknowledges receipt of your
request for information dated 7 February 2023, which seeks copies of all
communications between Chief Commissioner Paul Hunt and the Israel
Institute of New Zealand, New Zealand Jewish Council, and Community
Security Group.

 

We will endeavour to respond to your request as soon as possible within 20
working days, by 7 March 2023. If we are unable to respond to your request
by then, we will notify you of an extension of that timeframe within 20
working days.

 

Your request as currently framed will be very difficult to meet without
substantial collation or research. It will take a significant amount of
time for us to obtain and review all correspondence with the organisations
listed above, as well as consulting with them and making potential
redactions to this information prior to release. We are of the view that
this would unduly interfere with the Commission’s other operations.

 

Unless your request is refined, we may have to refuse it under section
18(f) of the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA), which applies where the
information cannot be made available without substantial collation or
research. To address the Commission’s difficulty in meeting your request,
we suggest that your request be refined to only cover correspondence
between the Chief Commissioner and these organisation within the last year
(i.e. 7 February 2022 to 7 February 2023). Please let us know before by
next Wednesday, 22 February whether you are prepared to amend refine your
request in this way.
