Comparison of engineering course grades to student GPA
M. Moran made this Official Information request to University of Auckland
The request was refused by University of Auckland.
From: M. Moran
Dear University of Auckland,
I am looking for information about what grades students tend to receive compared to their GPA.
Please provide the data as an Excel spreadsheet.
Please include information for each Faculty of Engineering course in 2020, 2021, and 2022 if the course is stage 2 or higher and had at least 200 enrolled students.
The information requested for each course is the lower-quartile, median, upper-quartile, mean, and standard deviation for each group of students. The students should be grouped by GPA, rounded to the nearest 0.5 (there should be 18 groups).
If there are not enough students in a group to preserve anonymity, then set the result for that group of students in the course as "N/A". If this occurs, please repeat this request with students grouped by GPA, rounded to the nearest 1.0 (in addition to the original request).
Yours faithfully,
M. Moran

Dear M Moran,
I refer to your request of 14 November 2022. The University does not hold
the custom statistics requested, and the Official Information Act 1982
(OIA) does not require us to create these. Your request is refused under
section 18(g) of the OIA. You have the right to make a complaint to an
Ombudsman if you are dissatisfied with this response.
Yours sincerely,
