Pressure from government agencies on Youth in Custody report

Alex Harris made this Official Information request to St Thomas of Canterbury College

The request was partially successful.

From: Alex Harris

Dear St Thomas of Canterbury College,

Last week Radio New Zealand reported on your "Youth in Custody" report ("Report sheds light on youth in custody", 26 September 2014). In their report, RNZ said that "School principal Christine O'Brien said the school was pressured not to release the report by some Government agencies that the students investigated." I would like to request the following information under the OIA:

* A list of the government agencies which pressured the school not to release the report; and
* All communications with those agencies about the report.

I would prefer to receive an electronic response. Queries about this request will be automatically forwarded to me by the fyi.org.nz website.

With regards to s12 of the OIA, I am an NZ citizen and in NZ.

Yours faithfully,

Alex Harris

Dear St Thomas of Canterbury College,

According to the online calculator a response to this request was due by October 28. Will Ibe receiving one soon, or do I need to go to the Ombudsman?

Yours faithfully,

Alex Harris

Hello Alex

Thank you for this email. My apologies I thought I had dispatched a copy
of the youth custody report (attached) and media statement a few weeks
ago. As you will read the student have identified three agencies, where
complaints have been made with the Office of the Ombudsman, and the
information not provided is clearly identified.

Unfortunately I am not sure I can advance your enquiry any further but I
am sure the attached infronation will satisfy your request.

I would like to take this opportunity  to thank you for your interest in
the work of students at the above college.

Regards

David
