How many babies are removed from their families?
Alex Harris made this Official Information request to Ministry of Social Development
The request was successful.
From: Alex Harris
Dear Ministry of Social Development,
This is a request for Child Youth and Family.
Today, the NZ Herlad reported that "In 2011, Child, Youth and Family removed 148 babies either at birth or within a month. In 2010, it removed 177." ("Questions over child killer procreation ban", NZ Herald, 7/6/12). I would like to request the following information under the Official Information Act 1982:
* The total number of children removed from their parents within two months of birth in each of the last five years;
* The total number of children removed from their parents within six months of birth in each of the last five years;
* The total number of children removed from their parents within one year of birth in each of the last five years
If you do not have data for five years, then I am happy to accept whatever data you do have (the Herald story suggests at least two).
I would prefer to receive an electronic response. Queries about this request will be automatically forwarded to me by the fyi.org.nz website.
Yours faithfully,
Alex Harris
