TA and tutor pay structure
Torven Schalk made this Official Information request to Victoria University of Wellington
The request was partially successful.
From: Torven Schalk
Dear Victoria University of Wellington,
I'm referring to your response to my earlier request from the 2nd of August. You claim that tutor and teaching assistant pay rates are negotiated individually. I know this to be untrue for at least the School of Psychology. With Tutor and TA I here refer to students employed on a fixed term basis to assist in teaching a specific course.
The school of psychology pays postgrad tutors:
23.50 / h if they have not tutored before
24 / h if they have tutored one Trimester previously
24.50 / h if they have tutored three or more Trimesters previously.
The school of psychology pays postgrad TAs:
25.50 / h if they have not tutored before
26 / h if they have tutored one Trimester previously
26.50 / h if they have tutored three or more Trimesters previously.
The admins at the School of Psychology are also adamant that they must not change this pay structure for individuals.
I would like to request the following information:
1) Is the School of Psychology the only School with such a pay structure?
2) If not, what are the pay structures at the other Schools?
For Schools without a pay structure, where pay is individually negotiated:
3) For the last trimester, what is the average hourly pay for a Tutor and what is it for a TA? The hourly rates should be in the electronic timesheet system.
Yours faithfully,
Torven Schalk
