I refer to your request for information about Fire and Emergency vehicles
dated 29 July 2022. We have spoken to our Fleet section, and we understand
that we can provide the following information:
o Registration Number
o Make
o Model
o Year
o Current Callsign
o Current Station
o Current appliance type/designation (e.g. Pump, Aerial, Tanker)
o Year of purchase or acquisition by FENZ
o Date of last scheduled service
However, we cannot provide the following information without substantial
research and collation.
• Current/Latest Mileage
• Current/Latest Pump or Engine Hours (if applicable for that vehicle

Finally, information about the date of the last unscheduled service is not
held in a database. In some instances it may be referred to in the
invoice, but again to search those records for the large number of
vehicles involved would require substantial research and collation.
Are you happy to amend your request to be for the information we are able

We have 1273 appliances, and unfortunately obtaining the milage and engine hours for all of these appliances would be a manual task that would require substantial research and collation. However, we have identified that for some appliances we have hubodometer readings. Would you be happy to received this data where it exists instead?
We look forward to hearing from you.

Dear Information Requests Team,
It would be satisfactory to receive hubodometer data in place of mileage for those vehicles equipped with a hubodometer. For all other vehicles a mileage reading would be required.
However, I still require, where applicable, engine operation hours as fire appliances often run for hours at an incident without moving.
Yours sincerely,
C Morton

Dear Official Information Requests,
Can you please advise an estimate of costs involved to ascertain current mileage and current pump or engine hours.
Yours sincerely,
C Morton
From: Official Information Requests
Fire and Emergency New Zealand
Kia ora
We have worked with our subject matter experts to estimate the cost of providing current mileage and engine running hours.
We would need to engage a contractor to facilitate this work as Fire and Emergency has 1272 vehicles located at numerous locations throughout New Zealand, with many at unmanned stations.
We estimate we would need to allow 15 minutes per vehicle to obtain these readings, record and review the information. Based on this, we estimate 318 hours of work.
Based on Government charging guidelines, of $38 per half hour with the first hour being free, our estimated cost is $24,092. Due to the costs involved, we would require a deposit to be paid before proceeding with this work.
Note due to factors such as some vehicles being located at remote or unmanned stations and ongoing industrial action, it may take some time to carry out this work.
Please confirm if you accept the charges we have estimated.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
If you wish to discuss this decision with us, please feel free to contact us.

There are a plethora of off-the-shelf services that would be able to export all of this information with the click of a button, EROAD for example. The fact that FENZ has said this would need to be done manually means they clearly don't have one of these systems in place. Yet another example of FENZ inability to manage their fleet and adequately protect the New Zealand public. Find out more here: https://www.firecrisis.nz/what-crisis/fi....
