From: UoO - Official Information Act
University of Otago

Kia ora Abdulla

I refer to your information request dated 7 March 2022 made under the
Official Information Act 1982 (Act). You have requested information in
relation to entry to the 2022 Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
(MB ChB), Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Bachelor of Physiotherapy
(BPhty) programmes via the Health Sciences First Year (HSFY) Refugee
equity group.

Please see our responses to each of your questions below.

Lowest score that received an offer via the Refugee equity group for entry
to the 2022 MB ChB, BDS and BPhty programmes

The minimum score to receive an offer to the 2022 MB ChB programme via the
HSFY Refugee equity group was 74.71.

The minimum score to receive an offer to the 2022 BDS programme via the
HSFY Refugee equity group was 74.71.

The minimum score to receive an offer to the 2022 BPhty programme via the
HSFY Refugee equity group was 61.43.

How many people were there in total applying through the Refugee equity
group for HSFY

In total there were 13 applicants who applied to Health Sciences
professional programmes for 2022 via the HSFY Refugee equity group.

Please note that applicants can apply for and receive offers to more than
one Health Sciences professional programme.

How many of the people applying through the Refugee equity group were
offered a place to the 2022 MB ChB, BDS and BPhty programmes

The number of applicants to receive an offer to enter the 2022 MB ChB
programme via the HSFY Refugee equity group was 7.

The number of applicants to receive an offer to enter the 2022 BDS
programme via the HSFY Refugee equity group was 6.

The number of applicants to receive an offer to enter the 2022 BPhty
programme via the HSFY Refugee equity group was 4.

Please note that not all students accept offers to these programmes. We
also note that it is the University’s standard practice to not report on
marks which relate to less than 5 students where we consider that such
disclosure could affect an individual’s privacy and wellbeing. Where the
numbers are very low, there is a risk that the identity of these students
could be determined/inferred, and that their personal information (i.e.
their grades) could be revealed. However, we note that for the 2022 BPhty
programme (where 4 applicants received offers via the HSFY Refugee equity
group), none of these applicants accepted their offer to enter the
programme.

I trust you will find this information helpful.

Ngâ mihi

Kelsey
