We acknowledge receipt of your Official Information Act request.

Would it be possible to please clarify whether you are after the number of applicants waitlisted for entry to the 2022 and 2021 BDS programmes? In your request you ask for "both current and previous years", but do not specify which years or range of years you are looking for. If you were able to clarify this it will allow us to process your request more efficiently.

We will wait to hear back from you before we continue to process your request.

We refer to your information request dated 24 December 2021 (as clarified)
made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).

The Act requires that we advise you of our decision no later than 20
working days after the date your request was received. Unfortunately, it
will not be possible to meet that time limit. We are therefore writing to
notify you, pursuant to section 15A of the Act, of a short extension of
the time to make our decision in respect of your request, by a further 2
working days – to 16 February 2022.

This extension is necessary to allow for consultations necessary to make a
decision on your request. As you may appreciate our staff are currently
engaged in urgent and important work, and necessary consultation is taking
a bit longer than normal.

We apologise for the delay and thank you for your patience. We will
endeavour to provide the information sooner if possible.

If you are not satisfied with our extension of time, you have the right to
make a complaint to the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the Act. However,
we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.

Thank you for your patience. I refer to your information request made
under the Official Information Act 1982 dated 24 December 2021 and
clarified on 17 January 2022. You have requested the number of applicants
waitlisted for the 2021 and 2022 Bachelor of Dentistry Surgery (BDS)
programmes, as well as the number of waitlisted applicants who proceeded
to course entry in 2021 and 2022.

Please see below our responses to each of your questions.

Number of applicants waitlisted for the 2021 and 2022 BDS programmes

The number of applicants who received offers to be on the waitlist for the
2021 BDS programme via the General category was 40.

With respect to the information you have requested for the 2022 BDS
programme, the University’s Faculty of Dentistry has not yet confirmed
final numbers for its 2022 BDS programme. This includes the number of
students waitlisted and final admission numbers. The data will not be
known and therefore will not be available until the end of March 2022 – as
student offers continue until the end of the third week of teaching in
Semester One. Late offers can occur for several reasons e.g. students
withdrawing after commencing the course or having to defer for
unanticipated reasons.

Once this information is available, we will be able to provide you with
the number of applicants waitlisted for the 2022 BDS programme.

Number of waitlisted applicants who proceeded to course entry (received
offers) to the 2021 and 2022 BDS programmes

Of the students who received offers to be on the waitlist for the 2021 BDS
programme via the General category, 34 received offers to enter the
programme.

As noted above, once the 2022 data is available, we will be able to
provide you with the number of waitlisted applicants who proceeded to
course entry for the 2022 BDS programme. We note that the maximum number
of domestic student places available across all admission categories for
2022 is 60.

We will be in touch with regards to the remaining requested information
once this data has been confirmed and is available.
