Request of Acknowledgement of Letter to Commissioner of Police (13.12.21)

Tess McCawe made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police

Response to this request is long overdue. By law New Zealand Police should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

From: Tess McCawe

Dear New Zealand Police,
On 13th and again on 14th December I emailed police a letter addressed to Andrew Coster - Commissioner of Police. I have not received an acknowledgement and so do not know if my letter has been received.

Please advise if my letter has been received by the Commisioner's office (yes / no). If no, please advise the correct email address to ensure that my letter is received by his office. If yes, please advise likley timeframe for when I will receive a yes or no response to my request that Alert 60020111095 be expired because it does not comply with National Recording Standards or the Privacy Act.

Yours faithfully,

Tess McCawe

Kia ora Tess

We have conducted a throughout check of our system and unfortunately cannot find any record of receiving correspondence from yourself to Andrew Coster- Commissioner of Police.

Could you kindly resend these either to [email address] or Ministerial [email address] and I will ensure they are dealt with appropriately.

Many thanks, Brittany

Dear Ministerial Services,
I received an email on 21.12.21 which read "Kia ora Tess,
We have received your email at the Office of the Police Commissioner, and it has been noted.
It has been passed to Wellington District to review and respond.Ngā mihi Management Assistant
Office of the Commissioner Police National Headquarters". My OIA was to ask specifically if the Police Comissioner had received the LETTER which was addressed to him and I have not had confirmation of this. I have not heard anything from anyone in the police since the email of 21.12.21.
I would like confirmation please that someone in the police has read the letter (not the email), and to be advised of who that person is and when I should expect a response please.

Yours sincerely,

Tess McCawe

I am still waiting to be advised either a "yes" the police have removed the alert or "no" police will not remove the alert. Or alternatively be advised when I will get a response from police.

3 months after my request, I am still waiting to be advised of when someone in the police will tell me that the alert against my name has been removed (because it breaches NRS and the law) or that police refuse to remove the alert created on 30 November 2010 by a community constable on his last day.

A key reason I wrote to the Commissioner of Police in December 2021 is to ensure that senior police were aware of the serious report I made, which has been ignored. I still have no acknowledgment by police of the information I have provided. For that reason I am using this annotation to ensure that reports I have made are a matter of public record. These are Serious Fraud Office CON0009922, Department of Internal Affairs Anti Money Laundering AML 00190460 and Financial Markets Authority CRM 01108010193. I have no reason to think anyone is following up and the individual reported is stil in the community.
