Covid saliva tests from home

Miriam Lakua made this Official Information request to Chris Hipkins

Response to this request is long overdue. By law Chris Hipkins should have responded by now (details and exceptions). You can complain to the Ombudsman.

From: Miriam Lakua

Dear Chris Hipkins,

Right now In Scotland you’re able to purchase a pack of saliva tests so if you need to test for covid it’s done on the spot wherever you are and results take twenty minutes,

do you think NZ will adapt this too?

Yours faithfully,

Miriam Lakua

I think the problem is that you're not actually making an OIA request, you're asking the minister/his office for an opinion. An OIA request would be "please provide all documents from the last 6 months related to the supply and recognition of rapid tests". Right now you're asking if they "think" they'll be made available which is asking for their opinion on it rather than a request for information that already exists.

Anecdotally though, they're already available and in use by large companies on a trial basis.
