Information redacted from Petitions Subcommittee Minutes dated 1 April 2021
John Creser made this Official Information request to Office of the Clerk of the House of Representatives
The request was successful.
From: John Creser
Dear Office of the Clerk of the House of Representatives,
Once again, I do acknowledge that you're not subject to the Official Information Act, however I'm writing to you as the person responsible for the overall administration of the Justice Select Committee and secretariat,
Thank you for the 1 April 2021 minutes from the Petitions sub-committee comprised of Ginny Anderson, Simeon Brown and Arena Williams.
Could you please provide the grounds for redacting information from these minutes?
Likewise I remain concerned that the committee did not seek to provide any assistance to collect evidence or assist in any way as is promoted by your parliamentary website.
Even after posting my request to their website on Facebook, there was no response. Could you please advise why the secretariat did not offer any assistance with this petition?
Office of the Clerk of the House of Representatives
Dear Mr Creser
As I indicated in the email to which the minutes were attached, information that is confidential to the committee about other business has been redacted from them. It was redacted because divulging confidential committee proceedings may be a contempt of Parliament.

Dear Mr Wilson,
Thank you for your reply in respect of redacted material. I appreciate that proceedings that are held in private are confidential, but much of the business is supposed to be about public consultation with lawmakers to consider improvements to legislation.
Are you saying that all of the proceedings held on April fools day 2021 were held in private?
Apologies for asking several questions my last letter, I will now restrict my inquiries to one topic at a time and have asked the question again.
