Effectiveness of Covid-19 Vaccine
Ross Francis made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health
The request was successful.
From: Ross Francis
Dear Ministry of Health,
In April 2021, vaccinators in New Zealand were given information about the effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccine. As part of their online education course, they learnt that:
"It is too early to know how long the protection given by the COVID-19 vaccine may last but is being studied." They were also informed: "We would expect COVID-19 vaccine to provide protection for longer than 2 months, although exactly how long for, remains unknown at this stage. This is because not enough time has passed since the clinical trials started to be able to accurately answer this."
Given health consumers’ right to be fully informed, are recipients of the Pfizer vaccine routinely told that it is not known how long any protection may last?
Are recipients of the Pfizer vaccine routinely told, when receiving the vaccine, that they may need to get further shots in the future?
Please send me copies of all information held, since 1 January 2021, about the vaccine’s effectiveness. That includes information held about its ineffectiveness.
As of today, how many partially vaccinated people, including those in MIQ, have become infected with Covid-19 post-vaccination?
As of today, how many fully vaccinated people, including those in MIQ, have become infected with Covid-19 post-vaccination?
Does the Ministry have a record of the number of health professionals that have declined to be vaccinated in New Zealand due to concerns about its safety and or lack of effectiveness?
What action, if any, has the Ministry taken to determine how many health professionals have declined to be vaccinated in New Zealand?
Yours faithfully,
Ross Francis
