Enquiry about the Job Seeker Support deduction table

Sophie made this Official Information request to Ministry of Social Development

The request was partially successful.

From: Sophie

Dear Ministry of Social Development,

In regards to the deduction table of the Job Seeker Support (https://www.workandincome.govt.nz/on-a-b...), I would like to ask what if the amount to be deducted is much more than the amount of Job Seeker Support itself?

Suppose someone received $3000 as gift from his/her mother one week. The gift was one-off.
According to the table, getting $3000 means his/her Job Seeker Support will need to be reduced by $1988.
(3000-160)*70%=1988

Nevertheless, this is much more than the amount of the person's Job Seeker Support per week (supposing $219.7).

In such scenario, what would the MSD do?

Yours faithfully,

Sophie
