Kia ora Phillip

Thank you for your email of 4 June 2021 in which you submitted a request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) to the Hon Chris Hipkins, Minister for COVID-19 Response. You requested:

" the current status and estimated final implementation dates of the

- National Immunisation Solution (NIS)

and the

- Covid-19 Immunisation Register".

I would first like to sincerely apologise for the delay in responding to you. Unfortunately, due to an administrative error, we were not aware of your request, and then were delayed in responding to you. We appreciate that this must have been very frustrating but we hope the information below is helpful.

- National Immunisation Solution (NIS)

The National Immunisation Register (NIR) is an information system that has been developed to hold records for all immunisations given to children in New Zealand, as well as some adult immunisations. The system helps health professionals identify what vaccines a child has received and helps ensure that children receive their immunisations when they are due. The National Immunisation Solution (NIS) is a replacement NIR system currently being developed, which allows health workers to record vaccinations anywhere and allow the public will be able to digitally access their own immunisation records. The first iteration of the system (the Covid-19 Immunisation Register/CIR) became operational in February 2021 to support the COVID-19 vaccine rollout. Additional functionality will be added through further iterations. Further information about the NIS is available on the Ministry of Health website: https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/dise....

- Covid-19 Immunisation Register (CIR)

The Covid-19 Immunisation Register (CIR)is a separate national register for the Covid-19 Immunisation Programme. The CIR is used to support delivery of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout and capture the required information about the immunisation event for all COVID-19 vaccinations. As part of the development process, the Ministry of Health has and continues to incorporate feedback from district health boards to ensure the system is easy for vaccinators to use. More information about the CIR is available on the Ministry website at: https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/dise....

We encourage you to contact the Ministry of Health if you would like further information about these systems.

Under section 28(3) of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review any decisions made under this request. We understand that you have already contacted the Ombudsman about this request, and would encourage you to continue to do so if you have any further concerns.

We again sincerely apologise for the delay in responding to you and we wish you well.
