to run on the North Auckland Line, and B. regularly haul freight on the
North Auckland Line. Currently DFT/DFB/DC locomotives haul freight on the
NAL, but when DLs are eventually permitted on the NAL, will they replace
those aforementioned classes in regular service?

Good afternoon Hunter

 

At this stage, KiwiRail is working towards an early 2022 timeframe for
having the North Auckland Line ready and able to have the DL locomotives
on the track. However, we are not currently planning on using the DLs on
the line for regular service until approximately 12 months later, when
KiwiRail will receive an additional 10 DLs into NZ.

At this stage we will look to replace the existing locomotives (i.e. the
current DFT/DFB/DC locomotives) for freight services.
