Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA):

 

“Please supply a copy (by email) of the contract works agreement between CCC/Waka Kotahi and Higgins
Construction relating to road works currently underway on Dyers Pass Road”.

the complete tender document that was released to all the contractors regarding the works on Dyers Pass
Road. This lists the construction requirements and the expectations of the contractor. Please note the link

I have consulted with staff regarding your concerns you have raised with the Mayor, Andrew Turner and our
Transport unit. Peter Bawden, Senior Project Manager, has provided the following information that addresses
these concerns.

 

The purpose of this project is to improve safety by installing guardrails in high-risk locations, which
should reduce the severity of crashes where vehicles leave the road. We’re also adding a sealed shoulder and
cycle friendly drainage channel on the uphill side of the road to improve safety for cyclists.

 

In the area where new guardrails are being installed, the sealed road width will be increased by 1.25m
providing more space for all road users. On the uphill side of the roadway where guardrails are being
installed, a new 0.5m sealed shoulder will provide additional space as part of the 1.25m widening. 

 

When there is heavy rain, water can currently flow across the road. This can be unsafe for road users and
can damage the surface of the road. The conditions of the consents granted for this project required
controls on water quality and erosion control, and hence the installation of the channel and a controlled
stormwater system.

 

The area behind the drainage channel will be filled with concrete. This prevents water entering road
foundations and damaging the road, and will direct runoff water into the channel.

 

Please be assured that these works are not cosmetic and are improving the safety of the road for users.
