In July 2016, I requested the Department of Corrections release the
Custodial Practice Manual in full (ref C78594). Initially, my request was
refused under section 6(c) of the OIA, but following a complaint with the
Ombudsman the Department of Corrections made a redacted copy of the
Custodial Practice Manual available on their website in August 2017:

I don’t believe this document has been updated since it was first
prepared. Based on the description on the Department of Corrections
website, I believe it was up to date as at 23 May 2017. However, there may
have been updates to the Custodial Practice Manual since then.

 

Please release the following information:

 

1. Is the redacted copy of the Custodial Practice Manual available on the
Department of Corrections website up to date?

 

2. If the redacted copy of the Custodial Practice Manual available on the
Department of Corrections website is not up to date, please release an
updated copy of the Custodial Practice Manual.

 

Please provide this information in an accessible, searchable format.

 

The current copy of the Custodial Practice Manual on the Department of
Corrections website is only partly accessible, with a large portion of the
PDF being images of text that are not accessible. If an updated copy is
provided as per part 2 of my request, please ensure it is provided in an
accessible, searchable format.
