Number of Council staff earning less than $18.40 an hour

Response to this request is long overdue. By law Napier City Council should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

Dear Napier City Council,

Please supply, for the 2012-2013 financial year, the number of Council employees who were paid less than $18.40 per hour for their work.

Please include part time and temporary staff, but exclude staff of third party businesses providing contracted services to Council, and elected representatives.

Please break down the number of employees into the following age brackets:

a) under 18 years old
b) 18-24 years old
c) 25-34 years old
d) 35-44 years old
e) 45-54 years old
f) 55-64 years old
g) over 65 years old

I would prefer to receive an electronic response. Queries about this request will be automatically forwarded to me by the fyi.org.nz website.

Hi Alex

The information you have requested below is taking considerably than expected as it is not straightforward due to the number employee agreements. Employee agreements contain extra payments, agreed to over many years, to staff for various reasons. These are not reimbursing payments i.e. non-taxable. The extra payments are not converted into the hourly rates. Council maintains with its staff. This work would normally be charged for and the charges would be significant (around $1,500).

However, I would expect this work will be completed by the end of next week and it will be supplied without cost.

Please confirm receipt of this email and your agreement to this requested extension of time.
