Number of Council staff earning less than $18.40 an hour

Dear Palmerston North City Council,

Please supply, for the 2012-2013 financial year, the number of Council employees who were paid less than $18.40 per hour for their work.

Please include part time and temporary staff, but exclude staff of third party businesses providing contracted services to Council, and elected representatives.

Please break down the number of employees into the following age brackets:

a) under 18 years old
b) 18-24 years old
c) 25-34 years old
d) 35-44 years old
e) 45-54 years old
f) 55-64 years old
g) over 65 years old

I would prefer to receive an electronic response. Queries about this request will be automatically forwarded to me by the fyi.org.nz website.

Good Morning,

 

I am just checking that your request is for the total number of people who
worked during the 2012/13 financial year whose rate of pay is less than
$18.40 per hour irrespective of how many hours they may have worked.  This
would include casual staff or temporary staff who only worked for a few
hours during the whole year. 

 

I could also provide the information as at a specific date, or in FTEs. 
This would provide a more accurate number perhaps.

For purpose sof consistency with other requests, I'm after the total number. However, you could always follow GWRC's lead (https://fyi.org.nz/request/1283-number-o...) and note that some number (or all) of the employees in any age bracket were casual.

The number of staff employed during the 2012/13 financial year who earned
less than $18.40 whilst employed was 168.  Of these 34 were not employed
at the end of the year.  Therefore you could say that 134 positions are
paid less than $18.40 per hour.  The breakdown as per your request is as
follows"
