Wage subsidy application - New World Waikanae
Megan Brown made this Official Information request to Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Megan Brown to read recent responses and update the status.
From: Megan Brown
Dear Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment,
It has been reported that New World Waikanae applied for and received $140,592.00 as part of the government's COVID-19 wage subsidy scheme.
While it has been reported from Foodstuffs that "any New World owners who have already received the wage subsidy due to an anticipated loss in revenue will pay the amount they received back to the government", I would like to know why the application was approved.
There has been significant public interest in this, which I believe outweighs any potential harm that may be caused by releasing this information - ie, Section 9(2)(b)(ii) should not apply.
Please provide:
-A copy of the application from New World Waikanae and any supporting documents
-Assessment criteria/guidance used to assess this claim (or a summary of)
-Decision documentation/approval for the application
-Any additional information regarding the decision to approve this request
Yours faithfully,
Megan

Tēnā koe Megan Brown,
Thank you for your email received 15 April 2020, under the Official Information Act 1982. Your request has been forwarded to the appropriate officials at National Office to respond. You may expect a decision regarding your request to be sent to you as soon as possible.
The Ministry is focussing its resources on supporting New Zealanders through COVID-19 by administering welfare support during this unprecedented time. Resources within our business units, where information for OIA requests is drawn from, is limited or unavailable. Staff have been redeployed to assist the frontline with the processing of welfare payments and/or Ministry hardware (such as laptops) have been reprioritised. As such, there will be a delay in you receiving a response from the Ministry.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.
