Dear Peeni Henare,
re Ardern set to offer olive branch to Whānau Ora claimants
You said the following to the NZ Herald "We know that Whānau Ora is changing the lives of thousands of families,"
Request
Provide a list of payments made to individuals and whanau for 2017, 2018, 2019 stating how much was paid and what it was paid for. E.g.
$200 Overdue GP bill
$500 30 Printed T-Shirts
$100 for emergency groceries
The above examples were given to me by Ngati Kahungunu ki Poneke Community Services as a typical indication of Whanau Ora provision. You do not have to identify individuals or whanau I simply want a list of every payment made and what it was made for.
I want to be shown how Whānau Ora is changing the lives of thousands of families, as you put it.
As you know I'm trying to understand how Whanau Ora can be considered legitimate if it supports people with resources, money, services that government agencies already provide.
This appears to be a conflict to me.
All public money and resources including tax payer dollars to the tune of tens of millions of dollars per year are being handed to familiar people - seemingly the same people and/or their friends and whanau run every allegedly Maori organisation (their names are all over government reports etc) yet they are not required to be accountable to the public for their spending of our money - our Maori population included.
While that MUST change (Whanau Ora and its managers and agencies should be accountable to New Zealanders), for the purpose I need the above information because I believe Whanau Ora is failing to support whanau that are actually struggling with life long, serious disadvantage (mental, physical abuse, cultural estrangement, incest, rape, violence) and choosing instead to provide menial/everyday support that government departments, charity groups, voluntary advocacy groups, DHBs etc already provide.
Keep in mind that the information above is the information passed to me from Whanau Ora staff on the Whanau Ora 0800 number, Te Puni Kokiri staff, Ngati Kahungunu and John Tamihere's staff in Auckland. I assuming their competent and know what they're talking about.
I appreciate your attention re my request: A list of payments made to individuals and whanau for 2017, 2018, 2019 stating how much was paid and what it was paid for.
Yours faithfully,
S. Paurini
