MBChB ineligability

K Roe (Account suspended) made this Official Information request to University of Auckland

The request was partially successful.

From: K Roe (Account suspended)

Dear University of Auckland,

For 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 how many (and what proportion) of candidates had their application to MBChB declined on the grounds that the applicant was deemed `ineligable'?

Is it possible to get a breakdown on `reason for ineligability'. E.g., incomplete application, did not complete degree in minimum time, did not meet GPA cut-off, was deemed `definite no' from interview, UMAT not supplied?

Yours faithfully,

A person in New Zealand,

Kelly Roe.

Dear Ms Roe,

I refer to your request of 30 June 2019, below. Consultations necessary to
make a decision on your request are such that a proper response cannot
reasonably be made within the original time limit. Accordingly the
University has extended the time limit for your request until 2 August
2019 under section 15A of the Official Information Act. You have the right
to make a complaint about this extension to an Ombudsman.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Ms Roe,

I refer to your request of 30 June 2019. For the purposes of your request,
the total number of ineligible applicants for each year from 2015-2019 has
been defined as follows:

(number of ineligible applicants) = (total number of applicants) -
(number of students admitted to MBChB Part II) – (number of students on
the final ranking spreadsheet who did not receive an offer) – (number of
students on the final ranking spreadsheet who received an offer but
refused it)

Year Number of ineligible MBChB Total number of MBChB applicants
applicants
2019 497 1039
2018 482 1052
2017 442 927
2016 402 941
2015 406 869

To avoid doubt, all applicants who were not offered an interview have been
counted as ineligible, as the interview is a requirement for eligibility
under regulation 1(b) of the MBChB’s degree regulations, as well as all
applicants whose applications were withdrawn. We cannot provide a
breakdown by each reason for ineligibility given the nature of our records
systems.

Yours sincerely

Rebecca Ewert
