Kia ora Ministry of Justice,

Under the Official Information Act, I am requesting the following information:

The number of charges, prosecutions and convictions under section 7 of the Gangs Act 2024.

The number of mandatory gang insignia prohibition orders issued under section 9 of the Gangs Act 2024.

The number of items of gang insignia have been seized, destroyed, and returned under section 7 of the Gangs Act 2024. Please provide the number of patches and other insignia items separately.

To be clear, I request this information as held at the date of this request, or at a later date that would enable this request to be responded to by or on 1 October 2025.

I confirm that I reside in New Zealand.

the privacy of natural persons). 

You can expect a response by 4 September 2025.

Police requires an extension of time in which to respond to your request,
pursuant to section 15A(1) of the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA).
Specifically, section 15A(1)(b), consultations necessary to make a
decision on the request are such that a proper response to the request
cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.

Police requires until 2 October 2025 to provide a substantive response to
your request, however we are endeavouring to provide this to you as soon
as possible.

You have the right, under section 28(3) of the OIA, to make a complaint to
