Partial Transfer of Request 
   
I refer to your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request of 6 August 2025 to the Ministry of 
Justice (the Ministry). Specifically, you requested: 
1.  The number of charges, prosecutions and convictions under section 7 of the Gangs Act 
2024. 
2.  The number of mandatory gang insignia prohibition orders issued under section 9 of the 
Gangs Act 2024. 
3.  The number of items of gang insignia have been seized, destroyed, and returned under 
section 7 of the Gangs Act 2024. Please provide the number of patches and other 
insignia items separately.  
I have transferred part of question 1 and the whole of question 3 to the New Zealand Police (the 
Police) as this information is not held by the Ministry and it is believed to be more closely 
connected with the functions of the Police. The part of your request that has been transferred to 
the Police is below:   
1.  The number of prosecutions under section 7 of the Gangs Act 2024. 
3.  The number of items of gang insignia have been seized, destroyed, and returned under 
section 7 of the Gangs Act 2024. Please provide the number of patches and other 
insignia items separately. 
You will hear further from the Police concerning that part of your request. Should you need to
