I refer to your request dated 24 January 2013 asking for surveillance
guidelines and principles. Section 12(1) of the Official Information Act
1982 states that: "Any person, being—
(a)A New Zealand citizen; or
(b)A permanent resident of New Zealand; or
(c)A person who is in New Zealand; or
(d)A body corporate which is incorporated in New Zealand; or
(e)A body corporate which is incorporated outside New Zealand but which
has a place of business in New Zealand,—
may request a Department or Minister of the Crown or organisation to make
available to him or it any specified official information".
Police therefore asks that you provide an address or other advice to show
you satisfy section 12 of the Official Information Act. Police will then
prepare a response to your information request.

I was just wanting to follow up on a request that I made regarding Police policy manuals.
You had previously asked for an address or some sort of information to prove that my claim was legitimate.
I have contacted you through my personal UoA email (which you can only obtain by being faculty/attending) with my address.
If it is a physical copy you can send it to the address provided or alternatively to the fyi email if it's electronic.
Essentially I was wanting to know where in the request process my claim was and if you could let me know that would be great.

Dear P.A.
1. You say "Essentially I was wanting to know where in the request process my claim was and if you could let me know that would be great." What did you mean by that?
2. In your initial request, you said you were "inquiring" about a single Police policy manual (Surveillance - Surveillance Guidelines and Principles (S211) GI). It may be helpful for the agency (in this case, the New Zeland Police) if you were to explicity state that you are requesting a copy of the guidelines. "Inquiring" is not the same as "requesting". For your own benefit, you should be explicit as to what it is that you want to know. Also, agencies should not have to 'read into' or 'read down' a request, because this can result in the agency misconstruing what you had asked for (and you being supplied with information that you did not want).
3. Sometimes it can be helpful for you to state the purpose of the information, though it is not mandatory to do so. If you are using it for academic purposes, then this may be an appropriate step.
