Closed Hearings in the Immigration and Protection Tribunal
Ms. Chew made this Official Information request to Department of Labour
The request was successful.
From: Ms. Chew
Dear Department of Labour,
The Immigration Act 2009 allows the Immigration and Protection Tribunal to conduct closed appeal hearings under section 244. In such closed proceedings, the appellant and his/her legal representative are excluded and instead, a special advocate is appointed to represent the appellant.
I would like to request the following information under the Official Information Act 1982:
* Since 2009, on how many occassions has such closed appeal proceedings with special advocates taken place in the Immigration and Protection Tribunal under the Immigration Act 2009? If the answer is more than zero, I would like to know for each occassion the year, the type of decision (e.g.: visa application, deportation), and where possible, the outcome (i.e.: whether the appeal was successful or not, or whether it was further appealed to the High Court).
I would prefer to receive an electronic response. Queries about
this request will be automatically forwarded to me by the
fyi.org.nz website
Yours faithfully,
Ms. Y. Chew
