Dear MCMAHON, Teresa,
The Ombudsman's practice guidelines note that "subject to certain exceptions, information should be released to the requester in the way
preferred by the requester." It is hard to see how any of these
exceptions (impairment of efficient adminstration, contrary to
legal duty, prejudice interests in ss 6 - 9 of the Act) apply.
In addition, the purpose of requests through the FYI website is to
ensure the responses are _public_ ,and available to all with a simple
google search. That aim would be compromised by a postal response.
Yours sincerely,
Guy Hollister

Dear Guy
Police is very happy to send an email response. We have done so in response to other requests through the fyi website.
The purpose of the email below was to ensure that you, as the requester, meet the requirements of section 12 of the Act, which sets out who may make a request.
If a requester does not satisfy one of these criteria then the request will be responded to but not under the provisions of the Official Information Act.

That that according to my OIA for the list of Police Manuals, the Police appear to have a policy/manual on sponsorship: http://fyi.org.nz/request/587/response/3...
It may be nice to OIA this and see exactly what it covers.
Things to do with this request
- Add an annotation (to help the requester or others)
- Download a zip file of all correspondence

Another attempt by NZ Police to put a damper on OIA requests.
See previous responses from them to see the same strategy being used. It's also noted here:
