Dear Emilie,

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

Thanks for your Official Information Act (1982) request dated 28 February
2019 in which you requested the following information:

1.        In the last ten years, how often has a police officer been
injured with a firearm?

2.        In the last ten years, how often has a police officer been
injured in any manner other than with a firearm?

3.        In the last ten years, how often has a police officer been
killed with a firearm?

4.        In the last ten years, how often has a police officer been
killed in any manner other than with a firearm?

5.        In the last ten years, how many incidents attended by police
involved firearms?

6.        In the last ten years, what proportion of incidents attended by
police involved firearms?

For parts 1 and 2 of your request, please see the attached “Assaults
Police” spreadsheet which shows the number of victimisations for ‘Assaults
on Police’ where a firearm was used and where a firearm was not used.
These tables are broken down by injury, Police district and calendar year.
Please note that in 2014 Police made changes in its crime statistics that
created a statistical series based on victimisations and replaced the
statistics on recorded offences. However, crime statistics on reported
victimisations are only available from July 2014 onwards.

For parts 3 and 4 of your request, they have been transferred to another
group within Police, who will respond to you separately.

For parts 5 and 6 or your request, please see the attached “Crime
Incidents” spreadsheet which shows the number and proportion of
events/occurrences involving a criminal incident attended by Police that
also involved a firearm. This table is broken down by Police district and
calendar year.

If you have any questions regarding this data, please feel free to contact
me via [1][email address] .

If you are not satisfied with my response to your request you have the
right to complain to the Office of the Ombudsman and seek an investigation
and review of my decision pursuant to section 28(3) of the OIA.

Yours sincerely,

Obert Cinco
