The request was successful.
From: Hugh Davenport
Dear Wellington City Council,
As a follow up to your response of https://fyi.org.nz/request/9308-all-corr..., specifically the attachment "Busses 02.pdf", I would like to request where this information is gathered from, and whether it would be feasible to request other locations, and a larger date range, without creating substantial work for WCC.
Yours faithfully,
Hugh Davenport

Wellington City Council
Dear Mr Davenport,
Thank you for your email to the Council received via the FYI website on 12 February 2019 in which you requested further information in respect of busses running red lights.
In your email you requested “As a follow up to your response of https://fyi.org.nz/request/9308-all-corr..., specifically the attachment "Busses 02.pdf", I would like to request where this information is gathered from, and whether it would be feasible to request other locations, and a larger date range, without creating substantial work for WCC”.
I can advise that the data referred to in the ‘busses 02’ document attached to my previous response was gathered from the Council’s traffic flow cameras located at the Mercer Street/Willis Street junction, and the Mount Victoria side of the Hataitai bus tunnel.
Unlike the specific red light camera located at the Karo Drive/Victoria Street intersection, the purpose of the traffic flow cameras is to monitor the flow of traffic. However, their positioning and their viewing angles are not suited to definitively determining the position of busses in relation to the intersection limit-lines and changes to the traffic light displays.
In addition, the Council does not have the resources to monitor all traffic flow cameras in respect of busses which may run red lights.
However, the Council has advised Greater Wellington Regional Council that the collection of data relating to busses running red lights would best be collected by cameras used for this specific purpose.
Should you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
Kind regards,
Ian.

Dear Ian Hunter,
Cool thank you. As it sounds like a manual process I won't request other data of that nature. If it becomes more automated I think it would be useful if the data was placed somewhere on the public domain.
Yours sincerely,
Hugh Davenport
