Access to Traffic webcam footage at Katikati Traffic Lights

Mark Ross made this Official Information request to Tauranga City Council

Tauranga City Council did not have the information requested.

From: Mark Ross

Dear Tauranga City Council,

My son was involved in a small car accident on the southern side of Katikati on the 26th January at approx 11.45am. The lady who hit him left the scene, heading North, without exchanging any information. We would like to view the footage from the Katikati traffic light cameras as the lady would have to have passed through there between 11.45am & 12.05pm. My son & the other lady involved have a very vague description on the vehicle so would like to know if its possible if my son could come & view the footage so he can possibly identify the offending vehicle?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Mark Ross

Good Evening Mark,

Could you please provide some sort of a description so that we can start
to carry out a review to see if anything matching the description can be
seen. Even if you can’t provide a make/model, a colour and body style
could be handy. Also any distinctive features on the car. i.e. dark tinted
windows, mag wheels, roof racks, spoiler etc.

Would the offending vehicle have any obvious damage from the accident? If
yes/maybe the approximate location that this damage would be visible.

Can you also provide the police file number for this accident.

Regards,

Dear David Warner,

Thanks for your reply. The trouble we have is the very vague description from my son (Blake) who was hit from behind & also the lady he was pushed into. The only description we have is that is was a small sedan or hatch off-white/cream or even a pale/lime green vehicle driven by an older Asian lady (aged approx 60 years). She has driven off before they have even had a chance to take much notice. She has run into the back of my sons ute which also had a trailer on, doing significant damage to his ute. By the looks of the damage to the trailer, the offending vehicle would have front bumper damage, possibly more to the left hand side. Time frame being between 11.40am & 12pm 26th January 2019.
You may have already sent some photo's of a couple of cars to the local police officer at Katikati Police station but neither of them are the offending vehicle.
Is there any possibility of the 15 minutes of footage we require being downloaded onto a usb drive (that i am happy to supply) so that my son & the other lady can sit down to view to possibly identify the vehicle? Even if this is sent to the Katikati Police station so that we can view it there?
I am still waiting from a phone call from the officer @ Katikati Police Station in regards to the police file number.
Please do not hesitate to contact me on 021906931 if you require any further information.

Thanks again.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Ross

Good Morning Mark,

Two of my colleagues have carried out reviews in relation to this. The first job was requested by the police. A second colleague was asked to double check the work, he undertook another review and nothing was located.

I have carried out a third review in relation to this and no vehicles that I have seen going through our camera have any obvious frontal damage.

All three of us have come to the same conclusion that the vehicle must have turned off before the area where our cameras are located.

I am sorry that we were unable to assist you re identify in the offending vehicle on this occasion.

Dear Mark

Thank you for your enquiry.

The operators have reviewed footage in relation to this request but have
not been able to identify any vehicle matching the description passing the
Main St camera that is suffering any damage. It is most likely that the
offending vehicle has turned off the main road prior to passing the Main
St cameras.

If you have any further enquiries you would like to discuss, please do not
hesitate to contact us on Ph: 07 577 7000 or email us at
