Roc*roi override

Susan Jackman made this Official Information request to Department of Corrections

The request was partially successful.

From: Susan Jackman

Dear Department of Corrections,

The Roc*roi algorithm is a robust model used for several important determinations regarding prisoner management. In some circumstances the Roc*roi score is manually overridden with a different score by a person. I request the following information relating to the override of a prisoners Roc*roi:
- All information, policies, quidelines, rules instructions etc that a staff member would use when they manually override a Roc*roi score.
- what is the maximum allowable score override as a percentage of the algorithm score (e.g. +/- 10%), or as an actual maximum value (e.g. +/- .15) or whatever terminology the department uses.
- who is it that decides the algorithm is wrong and an Override is necessary? (I don’t mean the individual names, rather titles e.g. PCO, case manager etc.)
- once a decision has been made to override a Roc*roi does the same person calculate and authorise the new score? If not, please explain the “chain of command” for this procdure.

Yours faithfully,

S Jackman

From: Susan Jackman

Dear Info@Corrections,

Thank you for your reply to my request regarding the Roc*Roi override. You have requested an extension of another 20 working days to fulfill my request.

I do realise that the Christmas period falls in the middle of your requested extension, however your request, in reality involves 52 calendar days. When added to the 20 working days (28 calendar days) you have already taken, you will have taken 80 calendar days to fulfill my request. That is if you don’t classify it as operationally sensitive and deny my request at the eleventh hour! (Apologies for my mistrust of your organisation, however from my experience it is justified)

I do wish to be reasonable and receive the correct information, and I am also mindful of staff workloads at this time of the year. However I feel that taking almost 3 months to provide information that should be part and parcel of the departments operating procedures and staff manuals, and therefore easily retrievable, is not really in the spirit of the Act with regards to extra time required.

I am still considering your request for extra time. Before I I give you an answer, would you please give me the dates your office will be closed for the Christmas holidays?

Yours sincerely,

Susan Jackman
