Justice of peace

john luke made this Official Information request to Ministry of Justice

The request was successful.

From: john luke

Dear Ministry of Justice,

I understand once JP is appointed it's a life time appointment. I would like to know if the department has any mechanism to monitor or check if the appointed JP was actively serve to the community or done his duties, e.g. checking how many documents he/she has certified etc, checking if they are overseas for too long. If you do have such mechanism, can you please attached the relevant documents and regulations.

Also, I would like to know if there are inactive JPs, can you remove them from office?

Further, I would like to know how is the department determine if there are sufficient JP in the area to serve the community? Besides, by number of JP in the area, do you use any other ways to make that decision? given some JP might be inactive.

Yours faithfully,

john luke
