Health & Safety Plann for SMAG

Douglas Black made this Official Information request to Invercargill City Council

The request was successful.

From: Douglas Black

Dear Invercargill City Council,

In response to a letter from William Brown including a query about the Health and Safety of the 12 Council staff still working in the earthquake prone Southland Museum and Art Gallery building, Acting Chief Executive Pamela Gare stated that the staff now work under strict Health and Safety plans implemented since the closure of the building, and briefly outlined some aspects of the plans (Southland Times letters 4 August 2018).

I would like to make an official request for a full copy of the new Health and Safety plan for these employees to see exactly what hazards and mitigations have been identified in their workplace.

I believe this plan requires public disclosure so the public can understand why the building had to be closed with four days notice, but ICC staff have been permitted to continue to work there ever since.

I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Yours faithfully,

Douglas Black

Dear Mr Black,

I refer to your request for information, sent on Tuesday, August 7:

“I would like to make an official request for a full copy of the new
Health and Safety plan for these employees to see exactly what hazards and
mitigations have been identified in their workplace.”

Please find attached a copy of the Southland Museum and Art Gallery Health
and Safety Plan as requested.

You will note that on page 3 of the document, a drill was planned for the
following week.

We wish to advise you that the drill was conducted on May 15, a week later
than planned. This was due to changing circumstances for staff roles, and
the disestablishment of some staff.

We wish to further advise you that a transportable unit was ordered on
July 31, and is expected to be on site within 10-12 weeks of that date.
This is to enable staff to work from the transportable unit wherever
possible, rather than from inside the museum.

Kind Regards,
