Number of prisoners disqualified by s 80(1)(d)

R Gavey made this Official Information request to Electoral Commission

The request was successful.

From: R Gavey

Dear Electoral Commission,

I would like to make a request under the Official Information Act 1982 for the number of prisoners who have been disqualified from voting by s 80(1)(d) of the Electoral Act 1993 since 2015.

More specifically, I would like the following information between 2015-2018 (per year):
- The number of s 81 notifications issued by prison managers to remove prisoners from the electoral roll
- The number of sentenced prisoners without a current enrolment record
- The number of sentenced prisoners removed from the electoral roll
- The number of sentenced prisoners removed from the roll of Māori descent
Note that a similar request was made in 2015 by Kate Stone (see her Masters thesis: (Re)claiming the Right to Vote: Prisoner disenfranchisement and Māori political equality).

If possible, I would also like to request the percentage of Maori prisoners who were removed from the electoral roll between 2004-2010 (per year). This relates to a request made in 2011, see https://fyi.org.nz/request/prisoner_voti...

Yours faithfully,

R Gavey
