Shonky advertisment for educational psychologists
Dr Robert Shaw made this Official Information request to Ministry of Education
The request was successful.
From: Dr Robert Shaw
Dear Ministry of Education,
An advertisment for 10 educational psychologists appears in Australian and United Kingdom publications. It has many deficiencies, including a suggested salary range that is in excess of the actual range and a claim that New Zealand is in the Indian Ocean. It includes an offer of $3,000 for the completion "of Maori culture competence". It says there are "guaranteed work visas for family members". There are several gramatical errors which help to make the whole advertsiment look somewhat shonky.
The advertisment says to contact Simon Ray. According to the internet, he is the Founder and Director of Hampton's Resourcing and Hampton's Education.
a) Has the Ministry of Education, or any other government agency or agent, ever employed Simon Ray or Hampton's to advertise on their behalf?
b) If so, was this current contact subject to an open tender process?
b) What is the value of all contracts given to Simon Ray/Hamptons and the particular contract regarding educaional psychologists? On what basis is are payments made, for example is there a "finders fee" per application?
c) Does anyone in the Ministry check the wording of advertsiments placed in the name of the Ministry? If so, what was done regarding the present advertisments for educational psychologists? What specific concerns do you hold regarding the statements in this advertisment as it appears?
d) Have the current advertisments produced any applications that have been received by the Ministry. or by the advertising agency?
e) Can you indicate the countries where this advertsiment appears, please.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
Dr Robert Shaw
