Auckland Council
Dear AK
I refer to your request which we received on 20 May 2018, requesting
information in relation to citizenship ceremonies. Our response to your
request is set out below:
1. Can you please provide the list of dates for all scheduled citizenship
ceremonies to be hosted by Auckland Council between June 2018 and
November 2018?
Please refer to the attached provisional schedule of Auckland Citizenship
Ceremonies.
Please note this schedule is provisional and subject to change. Dates and
locations for individual ceremonies are confirmed between Auckland Council
and Department of Internal Affairs.
Citizenship ceremonies are generally held on a six-week cycle in each
area, dependent on availability of venue, staffing, and numbers of
candidates.
2. Is a resident of West Auckland (i.e. in Waitakere) eligible to attend
ceremonies in any part of Auckland?
Once approved for citizenship, candidates are normally assigned by
Department of Internal Affairs to the next available ceremony in the area
of their residence.
Candidates are able to receive their citizenship in another area other
than where they reside.
3. If the resident of West Auckland (i.e. in Waitakere) is eligible to
attend ceremonies only in Waitakere, then what is the process for that
resident to inform Auckland Council that he/ she is happy to attend
ceremonies in other parts of Auckland in the interest of time
A request may be made to the Department of Internal Affairs to be assigned
to a ceremony in another area.
4. What is the current backlog of citizenship ceremonies for Auckland and
West Auckland
There is no current backlog in the scheduling of citizenship ceremonies
for the Auckland region and west Auckland area.
Please note the approval of candidates and assignment to citizenship
ceremonies is carried out by the Department of Internal Affairs and
information on delays up to this point should be referred to the
department.
I hope you find this information useful. Please feel free to contact us on
09 301 0101 if you need any further information.
Kind regards
The Privacy & LGOIMA team
Auckland Council
