Election Pledge on Civics Education
Matthew Whitehead made this Official Information request to Ministry of Education
The request was refused by Ministry of Education.
From: Matthew Whitehead
Dear Ministry of Education,
I am writing to request information on the progress of a specific item in the School Leaver's Toolkit election pledge and how it has progressed into policy under the Official Information Act.
I am specifically interested in the plan to provide mandatory civics education in years 11 and 13 mentioned during the election campaign, specifically:
What progress has been made to implementing this?
Is there any expected implementation date at this time, and if so, when?
How would such a course be integrated with other studies?
Has any consideration been given to the merits of implementing this education earlier in line with calls to lower the voting age to 16 or 15?
(With public support of these calls for earlier voting by some ministers from the government's support parties, considering the case for finishing the entire curriculum on civics by Year 11 would seem like a natural option to put before the minister, but I'm conscious that these dots don't always get connected in advance)
Thank you for your time.
Yours faithfully,
Matthew Whitehead.

Will probably just wait until the budget and re-request to see if they can release it then. :)
Things to do with this request
- Add an annotation (to help the requester or others)
- Download a zip file of all correspondence

I wondered what the document was that they identified and whether parts of it could be released.
