Dear Mike,

Thank you for your email of 12 February 2018, to the Minister of Education requesting the following information:

•advice you have received, and from whom, upon which you relied, to formulate your decision to close Charter Schools.

Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).

The Minister needs to extend the timeframe of our response to your request by 20 working days, pursuant to section 15A(1)(b) of the Act, as consultations necessary to make a decision on the request are such that a proper response to the request cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit. For this reason, you can expect to receive a response to your request by 11 April 2018. We will try to respond sooner than this date if possible.

If you no longer require this information please let us know as soon as possible.

Please be advised that should you have any concerns regarding this extension you have the right to ask an Ombudsman to investigate our decision to extend the timeframe. You can do this by writing to [email address] or Office of the Ombudsman, PO Box 10152, Wellington 6143.

Kind regards,

John

Dear John Sutherland,

I do not accept your premise for an extension to the timeline. The Minister has made the decision based on information that he already has and therefore there should not be any delay in releasing that information.

Yours sincerely,

Mike Allen
