Police Tolerances

Joseph made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Joseph to read a recent response and update the status.

From: Joseph

Dear New Zealand Police,

I reside in New Zealand and am curious to tolerances police give.

For example, driving above the posted speed limit is against the law. Due to the tolerances of speedometers and natural human error, are police justified in issuing tickets for those who exceed the speed limit by 1?

Also, because the alcohol limit is 0 for persons under 20. Will a person under 20 be charged with having alcohol in their system if it is an extremely negligible amount, or is there a tolerance?

It's worth noting that some foods may naturally contain small amounts of
alcohol, like orange juice.

Yours faithfully,

Joseph

Ummm no it's not actually an offence, but it is typical of OIA requests to police to not be responded to within the time limit. Make a complaint to the Ombudsman - it's the best way to keep pressure on
