Dowsing Techniques with Water

 

1.    I write to acknowledge your request for information received 20
December 2017 regarding use of dowsing techniques when working with water.

 

2.    This is being treated as an Official Information request, and as
such Council must meet certain criteria in how and when we respond to you,
set out in the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act
1987.

 

3.    Your request has been provided to the relevant officers for follow
up. You will be advised of Council’s response as soon as is reasonably
possible, and no later than 20 working days from the date we received your
request, unless we have informed you that we need an extension to that

Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act Request – Use of
Dowsing Techniques with Water – Response

 

1.    Further to your request for information received 20 December 2017
regarding the use of dowsing techniques with water, I am now able to
provide you with Hastings District Council’s response.

 

2.    You requested:

 

1.     If any Council or Council Controlled Organisations staff use
dowsing as part of their job.

 

2.     If any contractors employed by Council use dowsing as part of their
work when engaged by the Council.

 

3.     If any dowsing companies explicitly offering dowsing services have
been engaged by the Council.

 

4.     For any of the above, what costs were incurred by the Council.

 

3.    Response:

 

Council’s Water Services Manager is not aware of dowsing being undertaken
by either Hastings District Council staff or our contractors.  Any leak
detection undertaken has either been with the use of specific ultra-sonic
instruments and/or listening devices such as noise correlators. We do not
employ dowsing as a method of leak detection.
