Military vehicles on Wellington waterfront

Mr Rodgers made this Official Information request to Ministry of Defence

The request was successful.

From: Mr Rodgers

Dear Ministry of Defence,

Over the last week or so there has been a large number of military vehicles parked up in a compound opposite the Westpac Stadium on Waterloo Quay in Wellington.

There are light and heavy trucks, tracked vehicles (Haglunds?), and either tanks or self-propelled guns. Over the last two days they have been loaded onto a ship.

May I ask what these vehicles are and why were they in NZ?

Yours faithfully,

Mr Rodgers

Dear Mr Rodgers,

The vehicles you remarked upon are Singapore Armed Forces vehicles that
were in New Zealand along with approximately 400 Singapore Armed Forces
personnel carrying out training of their artillery battalions as part of
Exercise Thunder Warrior.  It is a unilateral exercise that has been
taking place in New Zealand for more than 20 years.
